Our Campground

We are a family-owned and operated business (read Campground History). Greenwood Acres Family Campground (GWAFC) has over 1100 sites with over 900 seasonal campers. You can enjoy camping from April 1 through October 31.

We are located on the south end of Goose Lake (400 acres). This is a private, spring-fed lake with no public access. On Goose Lake, you can enjoy swimming, fishing, and boating. There is a 5 mph speed limit enforced because of the size and environmental structure of Goose Lake. Jet skis and water skiing are prohibited, so the majority of the boats on the lake are pontoon boats.

Campground History

Greenwood Acres Family Campground was organized in 1972 as a campground two years after holding the 1970 Goose Lake Rock Festival-click here for more information. Richard Songer, a promoter and road construction contractor from the Detroit area, developed the campground.  In 1986, Richard Songer sold the campground to Lyle and Doris Wolfinger.

Previous to Richard Songer's ownership, the different properties were owned by the Wolfinger family and the Greenwood family.  Lyle Wolfinger had farmed his property since 1947.  At first Lyle did not have a tractor.  He held the reins of two horses to plow his fields to feed the 50 cows he milked by hand.  Lyle and Doris were married in 1949. As their four children came along, they were all involved in the dairy operation.

Lyle and Doris' son, Wendal, managed the campground until his untimely death in 1988. Since that time Wendy Wolfinger and Sharon Kinchsular have managed the campground.  Rex Wolfinger started a few years later.  Then Janet came on board in 2002.   Before Lyle Wolfinger passed away, the campground incorporated in the name of Greenwood Acres, Co. Inc.  After the passing of Doris in 1987 and Lyle in 2004, their children and grandchildren inherited the campground.

It is our desire to operate this property as a family campground.  We are striving to continually make improvements and to encourage generations of families to camp at Greenwood Acres Family Campground.  With the assistance of our dedicated employees, we are passionate about making each day at the campground an unforgettable camping experience.
